SIA Trade Show February 7-9, 2012 hosted by Stratton Mountain Resort, Vermont
The LFR crew, along with our friends at Ski Haus, just completed the 2012 SIA On Snow Demo hosted by Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont. Many various ski and snowboard vendors gathered at the annual east coast trade show to show off the new 2012/2013 product lines and the shop members present were able to get a hands on, on snow demo of the newest skis, snowboards, boots, poles, accessories, etc. Every rep we spoke with this year seemed more than happy to give us what they believed would be their best product to satisfy our needs with respect to the riding style, equipment features, and new technology that suited our personal preferences. We are very appreciative of all the hard work and effort of everyone involved for pulling off a thoroughly worthwhile three day event And for the most part, it was a success, and an in-depth equipment review from several of our members will be added in the Forum section. This is our way of helping spread information as well as our value as a resource for consumers looking to make an intelligent equipment investment, and those who just enjoy skiing and riding. O'Neill Update on Everest Expedition
New Cham Skis Wait Patiently For Descent
Dynastar athlete and mountaineer, Hilaree O'Neill, is in the early stages of a Mt. Everest expedition.
Beginning early April, O'Neill traveled to Nepal with the new Cham High Mountain 87 in tow. Conditions permitting, the group hopes to summit and possibly ski from the highest elevation in the world.

Just saw what appears to be the newest evolution in snowboarding from two different companies. Honestly, I'm not sure what to think. I strive to be someone who can make an informed and unbiased decision when encountering new products and experiences, but one of these things has me scratching my head.
That's right, the crew @ Hunter are going to build another Hell Track for all to play on.

This is an event ran by snowboarders for snowboarders. Its all about style & progression, No # Bibs, No Snowboarding Coaches telling you how your run should look and no need to spin it to win it. Anyone and Everyone is encouraged to enter or at least come out and cheer those who entered on.
We will be BBQ'n both days up at the YURT, so bring your favorite beverage to wash down some dogs and burgers.
While all this is going on, we will be raising some money for Hoods to Woods Foundation (www.hoodstowoods.com). Many kind people of the snowboard industry have donated prizes for the raffle.
Hunter will have $25 ALL Day Lift Tickets. Contest is FREE, but we ask for a small donation of $10 to go towards Hoods to Woods. Its not required, but suggested for extra good STYLE points.

This is a lengthy video but it's cool to hear mad scientist Mike Olson rap about the evolution of Lib Tech's journey from surfing to snowboarding and back to surfing. Mervin is going to CRUSH it with these. If only they starting making wakeboards!

It's about time the backcountry got the recognition it deserves on the contest scene. Now these non-halfpipe/slopestyle park events are not completely new, but it is nice to see what kind of progression will come from those influenced today by Travis Rice and his Red Bull "Supernatural" event (televised March 31st), and now the X Games Real Snow Backcountry contest. The true test of a rider's abilities is how he or she determines a line, negotiates the features, and executes the run with technique, precision, and progression, all while showcasing their own unique style. Now they can do all of that in natural terrain and powder instead of on hardpack and metal at this year's European Winter X Games coming to us from Tignes, France.

The Big Man called me and said it is DUMPING at Stratton right now. They are supposed to get up to 3 inches today with 6-8" coming tomorrow. If you have work this weekend, call in sick. If you have plans.....break them.

The 2012 Jon Olsson Invitational or JOI Big Air competition will take place April 6-7, 2012 in Are, Sweden, and will feature some of the best skiers in the world. Qualifiers will take place on the 6th, and the finals the following day on the 7th. Many of them are selected by invite, but where this event differs from "Supernatural" is the fact that Jon has opened up entrance to the world via an online video qualifier.
The World Snowboarding Championships for 2012 from Oslo, Norway is a wrap, and the winners of this event have been crowned. Mascara Militia pulled off their first event with an AMAZING rail jam this past Saturday. Such a good time!! The weather was nice, there were smiles on everyone's faces, and there was talent to be shown. 30 girls came out to shred, and a fun time was had by everyone! It felt so good to take over the park with the ladies this weekend. More all girls rail jams need to happen because they are just so fun! Look for more Mascara Militia events in the future; us ladies kill it.

The 2012 Winter X Games is a wrap, and the event was filled with several groundbreaking new feats, as well as a memorable and bittersweet farewell to an inspirational legend. Hosted in memory of the late, award-winning and standard-setting freeskier Sarah Burke, the X Games once again, brought top athletes from around the world to convene in Aspen, Colorado to determine and crown the best contestants in a variety of extreme, action sports events.
